Materia prima

Solo exhibition at Poesis Gallery, Parcours Céramique Carougeois 2022
International Biennial of contemporary ceramics, organised by Fondation Bruckner
Carouge, Switzerland
17 September 2022 - 25 Septmber 2023

“Materia Prima, Ceramics, an Alchemical Art” reflected on how ceramics is often referred to as an alchemical discipline. Alchemy and ceramics both share the practice of materials refinement and their transformation, leading to the birth to new materiality. But not only that; for those who practice them they also entail a pursuit – the quest for the Absolute, elevation and eternity.

The collection of vessels for Poesis Gallery was made with volcanic clays and rocks collected around Italy: Pantelleria, Stromboli, Etna and Vesuvio. Volcanic rocks were used as an aggregate inside another clay body and brought to vetrification, retransformed by heat and hand.
